Game Notes:
QB Troy Robinson rushed 10 times for 87 yards and scored two TDs while completing 14 of 24 passes for 188 yards, and fullback Dave Cottrell collected 117 yards from 22 attempts and scored two TDs to lead Wesleyan to a 31-14 victory over visiting Bates. The win upped Wesleyan's record to 4-0 on the season while Bates dropped to 0-4.
The one-two punch of Robinson and Cottrell powered Wesleyan for the fourth straight week as Wesleyan rushed for 294 yards in the game and averaged 270 an outing in its first four games, ranking the team among the top 10 nationally in Division III. Cottrell has rushed for more than 100 yards in each of Wesleyan's games this season, the first time in history a Wesleyan runner has put together four straight 100+ games. For the year, Cottrell has 542 yards on 99 rushes with five TDs. Robinson has 343 yards on 61 carries and has completed 43 of 76 passes for 460 yards this year. Six of his tosses against Bates were hauled in by James Yaker, who had 96 receiving yards.
Bates QB Dan Hooley went 24-for-45, good for 230 yards and a pair of TDs. Tom Spiro paced the Bates receiving corps with 12 catches for 100 yards and had one TD, that coming on an eight-yard reception with just 18 seconds to play.
Wesleyan, which came within one interception of the team record for pickoffs in a game with six, posted its sixth consecutive victory over Bates, which fell to 0-20-1 in its last 21 starts.
