GAME NOTES
Mike Rahmer scored the only touchdown of the game with a 28-yard reception of a Dan DeBlois pass at 8:24 of the third quarter, and Hamilton's defense made the points hold up by keeping Wesleyan out of the endzone in a 6-3 victory. Hamilton improved to 1-1 on the year while Wesleyan fell to 0-2.
Wesleyan put its only points on the board when Rob Stager connected on a 32-yard field goal with 24 seconds to play in the third period.
The game was played in a steady rain. After a scoreless first half, Hamilton mounted a six-play 76-yard drive for a 6-0 lead as Scott Milleisen, who finished the day with 29 carries for 99 yards, had three rushes for 30 yards while DeBlois hit two passes for 43 yards. Rahmer also had a three-yard run during the march.
For the game, DeBlois completed 14 of 27 passes for 168 yards. He was intercepted twice.
Wesleyan, which held a two-to-one margin in time of possession over the opening three quarters, was victimized by Hamilton's fourth-quarter ball control as Hamilton ran off more than 10 minutes of the fourth-period clock despite going scoreless. Wesleyan had one final drive with 34 seconds left in the game, but a final pass from the Hamilton 26 was broken up in the endzone to preserve the win.
Wesleyan's field goal came at the end of an eight-minute, 17-play series. Wesleyan had the ball inside the Hamilton 10-yard line twice in the contest but could not put the ball in the endzone.
Wesleyan was led on the ground by Dave Cottrell, who had 34 rushes for 134 yards, with 100 of those yards coming in the first half on 22 attempts.
