GAME NOTES
Trinity outgained host Wesleyan by a 461-177 yard margin to post its fifth consecutive win of the 1994 season and defeat Wesleyan for the eighth year in a row with a 40-0 decision. It was Trinity's first shutout over Wesleyan in 23 years, having captured a 21-0 contest in 1971. The season finale for both teams, Trinity closed the 1994 campaign with a 6-2 mark while Wesleyan fell to 2-6.
Trinity marched 64 yards on nine plays with the opening kickoff to lead 7-0 at 11:07 of the first quarter as Shaun Kirby bolted in from seven yards out for the TD. At 5:39 of the quarter, Tom McDavitt became the first player to score a TD on a punt return against Wesleyan since 1984 when he raced 69 yards up the left sideline to make it 13-0. Robert Rondini closed out the first-half scoring with a pair of field goals, one from 40 yards and another from 30 yards, giving Trinity a 19-0 lead at halftime.
On Wesleyan's opening possession of the second half, Trinity's Ryan Hankard blocked a Wesleyan punt and Marc Pezzuto collared it in the endzone for a 27-0 Trinity edge as Kirby made good on a two-point conversion run. It was the first time since 1988 that Wesleyan had a punt blocked a the Cardinals had gone 48 games and 296 straight punts without having one blocked.
A nine-play, 82-yard march, capped by a 10-yard screen pass from Steve Mikulski to Mike Ranieri upped the advantage to 34-0 at 4:44 of the third period, and a five-play, 29-yard series set up by a Brian Callahan interception and 19-yard return closed out the scoring early in the fourth quarter. Mikulski, who completed nine of 19 passes for 209 yards, did the scoring honors on a one-yard sneak.
