Game Notes:
QB P.J. Matson completed 15 of 26 passes for 230 yards with eight going to tight end Brett Nardini for 139 yards and a pair of TDs as Colby ended a straight of consecutive games won by the home team in Colby-Wesleyan matchups. Colby moved to 2-1 on the year while Wesleyan fell to 1-2.
In rolling up 423 yards of total offense, Colby took a 6-0 lead on a 21-yard scoring strike from Matson to Nardini, capping a 10-play, 77-yard march at 1:30 of the first quarter. Wesleyan got its only points on a career-best 39-yard field goal from Rob Stager at 11:10 of the second period. Nardini hauled in a 13-yarder to make it 14-3 at 6:58 of the stanza, completing a nine-play, 67-yard drive, followed by a 20-yard field goal on the final play of the half by Jerrod DeShaw for a 17-3 halftime lead.
Lawaun Curry bolted 68 yards up the left side at 8:44 of the third period to close out the day's scoring as he collected 108 yards on 12 carries, helping Colby net 193 yards rushing in the game.
Held to three points in a 34-3 loss at Hamilton the previous week, Wesleyan extended its streak of consecutive quarters without scoring a touchdown to nine after beating Middlebury, 28-20, on opening day.
In seven previous meetings between Wesleyan and Colby starting in 1988, the home team had always won. This Colby victory, which left the series 10-8 in Wesleyan's favor (the teams first met in 1927), ended the string of consecutive home victories and also ended a seven-game streak of wins by Wesleyan over Colby in Middletown dating back to 1976.
