Game Notes:
Junior QB Scott Hevesy completed 12 of 18 passes for 195 yards and four TDs in leading Wesleyan to a 28-20 opening-game victory over visiting Middlebury. Hevesy earned an efficiency rating of 232.0 with his performance.
Connecting on two TD tosses of six and 69 yards to Mike Hakim as well as scoring passes of nine and seven yards to Luke Yohan and John Pascucci, respectively, Hevesy helped Wesleyan build up a 28-6 edge after three quarters of play. Middlebury, behind the one-two punch of QB Scott Pokrywa and running back Terence Bradford, scored the final 14 points, the last TD coming with 1:20 to play. Pokrywa totaled 247 yards of offense by passing for 153 yards (19-33) and one TD while running for 94 (on 17 attempts) and one TD. Bradford rambled for 100 yards on 21 carries.
Wesleyan was paced on the ground by Dave Cottrell, who ended the day with 81 yards on 15 carries. Most of his yardage came in the first half (9-61) as Wesleyan owned a 21-6 edge at intermission.
Hakim was the top receiver for Wesleyan with four catches for 116 yards, while Andy McPhee paced Middlebury with six receptions for 59 yards.
Middlebury owned a statistical edge in plays (80-52), first downs (21-16), total yardage (358-320), and time of possession (35 minutes-25 minutes) but came away empty on a 12-play, six-minute drive in the first half (failed on 4th-and-goal at the 5) and a 15-play, 7:30 drive in the second half (pass intercepted).
Wesleyan snapped a three-game losing streak against Middlebury with the victory.
