GAME NOTES
Bowdoin QB Hayes MacArthur completed 19 of 31 passes for 216 yards and three TDs while also rushing five times for 28 yards and a TD as Bowdoin ended a six-game losing streak against Wesleyan with a 31-8 football decision. Bowdoin had not defeated Wesleyan on the gridiron since 1985 (the teams did not meet from 1988-91). Bowdoin improved to 2-4 on the season while Wesleyan dropped to 3-3.
MacArthur completed passes to eight different receivers, including ones of 66 and eight yards for TDs to John Paquet, his only two catches of the day. The 66-yarder came at 8:58 of the second quarter while the other came in the middle of the third period as Bowdoin moved out to a 24-0 edge. Wesleyan got on the board with a 24-yard scoring pass from Jake Fay to Nate Moore on fourth down with 1:08 left in the third quarter. Earlier in the game, Wesleyan penetrated the Bowdoin 30-yard line six times only to come away empty each time. Wesleyan was 1-for-13 on third-down conversions and turned the ball over six times in the contest, five times via interception and once on a fumble. Randy Petit had two of the pickoffs for Bowdoin. Two Bowdoin scores were the direct result of Wesleyan turnovers.
MacArthur completed Bowdoin's scoring with a nine-yard run at 3:50 of the fourth quarter.
Offensively, Wesleyan got 94 yards rushing from Tom Themistocles on 16 carries while Fay completed 14 of 30 passes for 181 yards with the one TD and three interceptions.
