GAME NOTES
Senior tailback Tom Themistocles became the Wesleyan single-season rushing leader when he rolled up 145 yards on 31 carries and scored three TDs, leading Wesleyan (6-2) to a 49-35 victory over Trinity (2-6) in the season finale for both teams. Themistocles ended the year with 871 yards, two better than Dave Cottrell, who graduated in 1995. For the year, Themistocles had six 100-plus-yard games, including five in a row to end the season, tying a team record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games. His three TDs also tied him for the Wesleyan seasonal figure of 13.
Wesleyan junior QB Jake Fay, completing 12 of 25 passes for 265 yards, added three TD passes to his totals, giving him 16 for the year, one short of the team mark, and 38 in his career, a Wesleyan record. Junior Matt Perceval caught two of the TDs, giving him a Wesleyan record 14 on the season and 23 in his career, also a team standard.
After falling behind 27-6 early in the second quarter, Trinity, behind the passing of junior QB Gregg Wysocki, pulled to within a TD twice, the last coming at 5:10 of the third quarter when Steve Cella raced 88 yards for a TD on a kickoff, making the score 34-27. Wysocki completed 19 of 34 passes for 338 yards and four TDs, with junior tight end Sean Furey on the receiving end of nine passes for 183 yards and two scores. Wesleyan scored the next two TDs, on a 16-yard Themistocles run and a 45-yard Perceval catch, to put the game away with 5:40 to play, 49-27. Sean Furey's 23-yard reception with 27 seconds to play ended the scoring.
For the year, Wesleyan set team records for total offense with 3,386 yards (423 a game) and 289 points (36 per game).
