Scrimmage held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 at Middletown, Conn.

Notes: Behind the throwing of Brennan Carney '04 and the receiving of George Thompson '02 and Sam Fletcher '04, Wesleyan's first-team offense collected 21 points in the opening 19 minutes of action while the first-team defense held Middlebury to just one first down (that by penalty) and 11 yards of total offense over the same stretch during the annual preseason scrimmage. When all 45 minutes of regulation action had been concluded, however, Wesleyan claimed a slim 21-14 edge on the scoreboard as Middlebury's last drive was stopped at the Wesleyan one-yard line when time expired. The final stats, which included a good deal of second- and third-team action, were fairly close. Wesleyan will open the regular season Sept. 22 hosting Tufts while Middlebury heads to Bowdoin.
