Ryan Walsh's '09 TD Catch in the Fourth Quarter Proves to be the Difference in 21-14 Win at Bowdoin
Making a 54-yard catch-and-run for a TD at 12:27 of the fourth quarter, Ryan Walsh '09 (#7, downfield in photo) broke a 14-14 tie at Bowdoin Sat., Oct. 27 and it held up as the winner in a 21-14 Cardinal victory. The game was played on a muddy field in a steady rain much of the time. Wesleyan twice held on fourth down in its own territory to seal the win, the final one coming on a great tackle by Pete Overman '09 on a 4th-and-1 run by Bowdoin at the Wesleyan 40 with less than three minutes to play. Wesleyan was able to run the clock down to :40 before giving the ball back to the Polar Bears deep in Bowdoin territory and a last-ditch pass was picked off by Justin Freres '11 to end the game. Zach Librizzi '08 (#12) ended the game with 300 yards of total offense as he threw for 217 (16-for-32) and ran 20 times for 83 yards. He scored both of Wesleyan's first-quarter TDs on runs of five and eight yards. Walsh, who ended the game with five catches for 153 yards, also had a key 47-yard reception on a ball that tipped off the hands of teammate Mark Noonan '08, leading to the Cardinals' second TD. Wesleyan has defeated Bowdoin 10 of the last 11 times the teams have met. Wesleyan will host Little Three rival Williams Sat., Nov. 3 during Homecoming/Family Weekend festivities. The game will be webcast with details for watching on the athletics home page under "Webcasts."
