Welcome to the Wesleyan University Athletics Hall of Fame. We hope teammates, family, friends and fans, or those just curious about the colorful history of Wesleyan Athletics will enjoy the visit to this site and to the Hall here on campus. We hope that the stories of the inductees will remind the Wesleyan community of the integral role competitive athletics has had and can have on the education and development of our students.
We are seeking nominations for the next induction into the Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame, which will be held during Homecoming/Family Weekend 2014. To nominate an outstanding Cardinal athlete, coach, team, or leader, you need to fill out and submit this form. For help in gathering information on a nominee, or if you have other questions, contact Sports Information Director Brian Katten: email@example.com or (860) 685-2887. Hope to hear from you!

The Wesleyan University Athletics Hall of Fame grew out of the work of the Athletics Advisory Council (AAC) which began work in the fall of 2006. The AAC members recognized the challenges, especially that of selecting the early classes. The inventory of outstanding coaches and competitors was daunting, however, with significant research and considerable discussion the selection committee was able to provide a slate of inductees that represented over 100 years of Wesleyan athletics. The AAC and Wesleyan firmly believed the celebration of its athletic legacy to be an important part of a successful athletic program. The remodeling of the Freeman Athletic Center’s Warren Street lobby was completed in time for the first class to be installed in May of 2008, which includes plaques and an interactive site.
We hope the Athletics Hall of Fame constitutes a statement about the place and importance of competitive athletics at Wesleyan. It emerges, we believe, from the stories of competitors and teams, of men and women, true scholar-athletes, of records and teamwork, of character and contribution. Wesleyan’s long athletic history includes world class and national caliber athletes, Olympic medals, NCAA Championships, regional titles and teams that won New England titles or placed in national competition. There are also accomplished professional coaches and coaches who have contributed to national associations. Some Wesleyan graduates have been innovators in the evolution of a sport. But most of the stories boil down to students, training, competing, and pursuing excellence in the larger context of their Wesleyan education. It is an exciting story of accomplishment and character, and of virtues such as perseverance, courage, loyalty, teamwork and generosity.
We think their stories together weave an exciting tapestry. We hope it entertains visitors and inspires current Wesleyan athletes by reminding them that they are part of a rich and proud tradition.
So, welcome, enjoy and stay tuned. There is more to come.
