Men's Hoops Finds Daytona to Its Liking with 80-62 Win over Birmingham Southern in Daytona Shootout

Using an 11-0 run early in the first half to break away from a 4-4 tie, Wesleyan moved out to a 15-4 edge with 13:26 to go in the period against Birmingham Southern in the first of two games in Daytona, Fla. during the Daytona Shootout Fri., Dec. 19. The Cardinals never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 22 points late in the outing en route to an 80-62 win in the first-ever meeting of the teams. Wesleyan concludes its action in Daytona Sat., Dec. 20, taking on Maryville (Tenn.). Wesleyan, with its usual balanced scoring, had five players contribute during the 11-0 run as Jack Mackey '16 (#24, photo insert lower left) began the streak with his first of five three-pointers in the game. He went 5-for-6 from downtown on his way to a game-high 17 points. He added eight rebounds and five assists in a solid performance. Harry Rafferty '17 had three points during the stretch as he finished with 14 points and five assists. Four Cardinals reached double-digit scoring as Rashid Epps '16 (#00, main photo) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-best 14 rebounds. BJ Davis '16 chipped in with 10 points.
