With a pair of double-doubles during the two games of the Inn at Middletown Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Wesleyan Fri./Sat., Nov. 16/17, Nick Pelletier '08 (#11, photo courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) picked up all-tournament honors. The Cardinals came out on the short end of two hard-fought contests, losing to Springfield in a first-round game, 53-47, and falling to W.NE.C. in the consolation game, 68-58. Wesleyan held a 46-42 lead on W.N.E.C. with 11 minutes to play but a 16-0 run by the visitors over a five-minute span helped lock up the victory. Pelletier finished the game with team-high figures for both points (13) and rebounds (12). He collared 13 caroms to go with 16 points in the opener vs. the Pride. Team scoring honors went to newcomer Kevin Scura '10 with 18 points. The Cardinals came back from as much as a 13 point-deficit to trail by only three in the final minute with possession, but couldn't get the equalizer and Springfield made most of its free throws to secure the win as time wound down. The Cardinals were back on the court Tues., Nov. 20, hosting Little Three rival Williams in a non-NESCAC game. With Stan Grayson '09 (#40, photo insert upper left, courtesy of Steve McLaughlinPhotography.com) triggering an 18-5 second-half run with 11 of his team- and career-high 15 points, the Cardinals came back from a 47-29 deficit to trail just 52-47 with four minutes to play. But the rally stalled and Williams secured a 61-51 decision. Also in double-digits for Wesleyan was Eric Winters '08 with 10 points. Grayson and Winters combined to shoot 10-for-12 from the field. The Cardinals wil be looking to get on the winning side of the ledger when they travel to Danbury for the Western Conn. Tournament Sat., Nov. 24, taking on Medgar Evers in the first round.
