Recovering from a 12-point first-half deficit to gain a nine-point lead in the second half, the Cardinals needed overtime to secure their first home victory of the year, 71-67, over Roger Williams Sat., Dec. 1. Wesleyan scored the first eight points in the extra frame for a comfortable lead with just 1:15 remaining. Stan Grayson '09 netted the first five points while Sean Collins '09 (#42, photo) capped off the 8-0 run with a drive to the basket for the 70-62 advantage. Eric Winters '08 (11-for-13 at the line) had 13 points and Nick Pelletier '08 came up with his fourth double-double in seven games this year with 11 points and a game-high 14 caroms. Against Emmanuel in the final home game of the semester Thurs., Dec. 6, it was Grayson with with his first career double-double, scoring 24 points to go with 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough in a 67-61 loss. Wesleyan clawed back from a 17-point second-half deficit to trail by only one, 57-56, with 3:17 remaining on Grayson's three-point play, but after each team committed a turnover, Emmanuel scored baskets on its next four posessions while Wesleyan countered with only five free throws of its own as the gap widened to 65-61 with 1:00 left. The Cardinals could not make up the difference and the Saints added two more freebies for the final margin. Wesleyan takes its act to Fisher College Sat., Dec. 8 for its next game.
