Cardinals Defeat Coast Guard in Opening Northern Dual Race for 10th Year in a Row, Then Fall to Bates & Williams, Beat UNH

Competing against Coast Guard to begin the dual-race season Tues., March 31, making up an event that was postponed Sat., March 28 due to unfavorable rowing conditions, only the team's varsity 8 took to the water. Wesleyan posted a winning time of 6:32.0, leaving Coast Guard 15 seconds behind in 6:47.0 over the 2000m route. The win was the 10th in a row for the Cardinals over the Bears. Wesleyan hoped to be on the water of the Connecticut River Sat., April 4, facing WPI along with Colby, Middlebury and UMass Amherst in the annual affair with racing taking place in Northampton, Mass., but poor conditions cancelled the affair. That made the next for the team a visit to Malden, Mass. for its usual gathering against Tufts, Bates and New Hampshire Sat., April 11.
