WESLEYAN MEN'S CREW SEASON

- Textile River Regatta -
10/3/99 in Lowell, Mass.
On the men's side, the varsity 8 placed sixth of 25 in the open
eight division while the J.V. 8 came through with a third-place
finish among 27 boats in the club eight bracket. Wesleyan's
varsity 4 was second of 25 in the open four while the lightweight
four finished fifth of 6. On an individual note, Ben Flynn '02 was
sixth of 9 in the open singles while assistant coach Norm Graf was
ninth of 20 in the veteran/masters singles. On an alumni note, Jon
Moss '91 was second in the veteran/masters singles and Nick
McQuaid `96 placed second of 12 rowing in the open
doubles. -
- Head of the Connecticut
Regatta - 10/10/99 in Middletown, Conn.
On the men's side, results had the varsity eight finishing fifth
and the J.V. eight 13th of 20 in the intermediate eight. The
novice eight was second of nine. Wesleyan also had a novice four
entry which placed sixth out of seven. In non-team activity,
assistant coach Norm Graf was third in veteran singles, Jon Moss
'91 was second in the master's single, Dong Kim '99 was third in
the novice single and Judah Rome '99 was second in the lightweight
single. Nick McQuaid '96 and his partner claimed a title in the
open double sculls, then joined Moss, Sibley Reppert '67 and Matt
Collins for a quad race. -
- Head of the Charles Regatta -
10/23-24/99 in Boston, Mass.
The men had two entries at the Head of the Charles Regatta. The
varsity boat was 14th of 78 in the club 8 race while in the club 4
event, Wesleyan finished 30th of 66 crews. An alumni group (aged
50 and above) also represented the University in the master's 8
race, finishing 29th of 35 entries. - Notes: In preparation for
the northern spring dual-race season, Wesleyan travelled to the
Winter Park, Florida area where the Cardinals competed in an
exhibition race against Rollins, Stetson and the U. of Florida. In
the varsity heavyweight race, Wesleyan was second to Rollins,
falling by 0.8 seconds. Wesleyan won the 2nd varsity heavyweight
eight race by 10 seconds. Wesleyan was five second behind Rollins
in the varsity four race and third in the novice eight
event.
