Coming aboard the full-time Wesleyan staff
in 1996 and now an adjunct associate professor in the physical
education department, John Raba just completed his ninth
season as head coach of men's lacrosse during 2005. John
has a 96-51 record at Wesleyan, including a 17-3 mark in
2001, the best season ever at the college. For this
accomplishment, John was named both NESCAC and NEILA
Division III Coach of the Year. He was named co-Coach of the Year by the
NEILA in 2005 after his squad posted a 13-6 overall mark, reached the
NESCAC finals and received its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III
tournament, making it to the quarter-finals. Both his 2000 and
2001 squads reached the ECAC New England Division III
title game. After posting a 14-4 mark and reaching the NESCAC
Championship game in 2004, John also received NEILA Coach
of the Year laurels. His 2005 squad captured its third straight
Little Three title and has won four outright crowns and shared two
others over the last six years, all of them winning seasons. John serves on the
USILA
All-American Committee and is a regional representative on the NCAA
men's lacrosse advisory selection committee. In addition to
coaching lacrosse, John has assisted with the football team
during the fall working on the defensive side of the ball each of his
nine seasons while acting as defensive coordinator for the
last seven years.
A 1993 graduate of the University of New Haven, John
was an All-American lacrosse player for the Chargers and
led Division II in scoring in 1992. Also outstanding on
the gridiron, John was a team captain, a two-time all-New
England pick as a fullback and earned team MVP honors as
well. John was honored by U.N.H. as its male athlete of
the year in both 1991-92 and 1992-93.
Before coming to Wesleyan in 1996, John picked up
lacrosse coaching experience as an assistant at New Haven
(1993), Quinnipiac (1994) and with the New Haven Silver
Bullets men's club team (1993-95). He also served as an
assistant football coach at Brown during the 1995 season. John is
a Long Island native and attended lacrosse powerhouse Farmingdale High
School, graduating in 1989.
Will Parker -
Assistant Coach
Will Parker completed his seventh season as a
part-time staffer and has coached both boys and
girls high-school lacrosse in Connecticut prior
to his work at Wesleyan. He also was an assistant
coach at his alma mater, Quinnipiac College, in
1998. A 1996 grad, Will earned all-league honors
on defense for the Braves as a senior and was an
all-New England choice at New Haven in 1994
before transferring to Quinnipiac. A veteran
clinician as well, Will is a special education
computer instructor at Foundation High School in
Milford and is pursuing a master's degree at
Southern Conn. Will was an assistant coach during the
NEISL East-West senior all-star game in June, 2005.
Connor Wilson-
Assistant Coach
After an outstanding four-year career
on defense for the Cardinals, Connor Wilson came aboard as an
assistant coach in 2004 and served for a second season in 2005. Completing his classwork at Wesleyan
in December, 2003, Connor spent the fall of that year as a reserve defensive back on
the football team, his first season with that sport. Starting
on defense for four seasons on the lacrosse field and a team
co-captain in 2003, Connor helped Wesleyan compile a outstanding
48-20 mark from 2000-03. Also an offensive threat, Connor had
six goals and three assists to his credit with four of those goals
coming his senior year. In addition to his duties with men's
lacrosse, Connor is aiding the University Relations office with some
of its fund-raising projects.
Chris Howes-
Assistant Coach
Chris Howes joined the men's lacrosse
coaching staff as a newcomer in 2005. He spent the last five
years building the boy's lacrosse program at Rocky Hill School in
East Greenwich, R.I., taking the team from a 1-15 record in 2000 to
two consecutive league titles (2003, 2004) and an undefeated season
in 2004. A 1998 graduate of Bates College where he captained
the lacrosse team as a senior, Chris spent his first year out of
college helping to start the lacrosse program at Mitchell College in
New London, Conn. Chris is enrolled in Wesleyan's MALS program
and is serving an an intern in the admissions office at the
University. Chris was an assistant coach during the NEISL
East-West senior all-star game in June, 2005.
Chauncey Farrington-
Assistant Coach
Another newcomer to the staff in 2005, Chauncey Farrington is a
1995 graduate of Bowdoin College where he was a four-year member of
the Polar Bears men's lacrosse team, playing close defense.
Gaining coaching experience as an assistant coach at Mercersburg
Academy in Pennsylvania for five years, Chauncey is currently
completing his MALS in social studies at Wesleyan.
Lukas Cash -
Assistant Coach
A 2001 graduate of Wesleyan and a four-year
starting goaltender, Lukas Cash
assisted with the Cardinal goalies for a fourth
time this past season. A second-team all-NESCAC choice
in 2002, Lukas founded Goalienation.com, an
online clinician service which provides
information and support in the area of lacrosse
goaltending.
