Cards Snap Losing Skid with Promising 2-1 Win Over Formidable WNEC
Taking on Western New England College in Springfield Sun., Sept. 23, the Cardinals broke into the win column with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. WNEC came into the game with a 6-1-2 mark which included a tie vs. Williams. Scoring what proved to be the winning goal was Ross Pemmerl '08 (#11, photo) as his first-half tally, coupled with the second goal of the year from Keisuke Yamashita '10, spotted the Cards a 2-0 halftime advantage. With three saves in the contest, Matt Gnall '08 carried a shutout into the final minute but the Golden Bears snuck one in to make it a one-goal differential, identical to the 2006 result when the teams met for the first time. Wesleyan will be on the air in its next start, hosting Coast Guard Wed., Sept. 26. For details on watching the webcast of the contest, please see the webcast area on the athletics home page.
