Matt Nevin's '09 Goal in 89th Minute Makes Cards a 1-0 Winner over NESCAC Rival Bowdoin
Scoring from 10 yards out on the right side off a centering pass from Nick Whipple '10, Matt Nevin '09 (wearing #20, normally #14, photo courtesy of Peter Stein '84) broke a scoreless tie as the Cardinals pulled out a 1-0 NESCAC victory over visiting Bowdoin Sat., Sept. 13. The win avenged a loss to the Polar Bears in the first round of the NESCAC tournament which ended the Cardinals' season in 2007. Registering his first career shutout with three saves was Nigel Stacey '11. In additon to his stops, Stacey did a fine job patrolling the goalie's box, nabbing numerous loose balls and crosses. Wesleyan enjoyed a 14-6 edge in total shots and a 7-1 margin on corner kicks. But it took Nevin's 18th career goal to propel Wesleyan to victory with 1:12 left in regulation. Wesleyan will be on the road Wed., Sept. 17 for its next contest, visiting Springfield College.
