Taking a feed from Asante Brooks '10 on the left side and putting a shot home inside the far post just 8:15 into the contest, Geoff Zartarian '11 (#5, main photo) netted the game-winning goal as it stood up for a 1-0 Wesleyan triumph over Springfield Wed., Sept. 16.
With four saves in the contest, Adam Purdy '13 (#30, photo insert upper right) posted his first career shutout while lowering his goals-against average to a mere 0.45 with a fine 90.0 save percentage this season.
Wesleyan continued its recent dominance over Springfield as the Cardinals, despite only a 30-27-9 overall margin in the series, stand 20-3-2 vs. the Pride in the last 25 battles. The teams have met every year since 1949 while also playing from 1926-30. Wesleyan had a 19-9 advantage in shots in this latest contest.
Wesleyan returns to NESCAC play for its next encounter, hosting Colby Sat., Sept. 19. The Cardinals hold a nine-game win streak and are 9-1 overall vs. the Mules coming into the game.
