Cards Continue Unbeaten String with Valuable NESCAC Win over Tufts, Third Shutout of the Year, 2-0
Asante Brooks '10 (#22, photo insert upper left) cashed in on Wesleyan's only shot of the first half, then helped Wesleyan assert itself in the second half while adding a goal from Nick Whipple '10 (#11, main photo) en route to a 2-0 NESCAC win over Tufts Sat., Sept. 26. With a 2-0-1 NESCAC record and 3-0-2 mark overall, Wesleyan is tied for first place in the conference one-third of the way into the campaign. The squad moves out of conference for its next outing, heading to Wheaton for a contest Tues., Sept. 29. Wesleyan was ranked seventh in New England at the start of the week. Wheaton was rated fourth.
Brooks got the game-winner vs. Tufts, receiving a pass on the left side from Whipple and putting a low shot into the net in the 13th minute. Whipple then padded the lead himself in the 53rd minute with another low shot into the goal as Walter Rodriguez '13 got credit for the assist.
In picking up his third shutout of the year which lowered his goals-against average to 0.38 with a .905 save percentage, Adam Purdy '13 logged four saves to keep the Jumbos off the board.
