Cardinals Finish as They Were Seeded at National Team Tournament, Going 1-2 for 30th
With strength in the upper half of the ladder, Wesleyan won more matches than it lost during its three team contests during the National Team Tournament hosted by Princeton Fri.-Sun., Feb. 20-22. But despite winning 15 of 27 individual matches, Wesleyan came away with a 1-2 team mark and finished just as it was seeded, sixth in "D" division and 30th overall nationally. The team opened with a 5-4 loss to Northwestern Friday, bounced back to defeat Virginia, 7-2, on Saturday, and fell again by a 5-4 count to Georgetown on Sunday.
Two Cardinals went 3-0 during the tournament as Dale Kobrin '11 (photo insert upper right) turned the trick at #3 while Tyler Snell '09 (main photo) did the same at #5. As a result, Snell and Kobrin tied for the team lead in victories this season with 11 each. Kobrin was the lone squad member to post a winning mark for the season with an 11-10 posting. Snell, who was one of six players to see action in all 22 matches during the team's 7-15 campaign, was 11-11.
Lonnie Gibbs '10 also cracked double figures for total wins with a 10-12 record, mostly from #6. At #1, Robert Broadfoot '10 was 9-13 as was Benjie Messinger-Barnes '09 at #2.
The National Team Tournament was the final action of the season for the squad.
