Robert Broadfoot '10 has been a Steady Force for the Cards in January, Team Opens Feb. in NESCACs

Since the Cardinals embarked upon their trip to the West Coast in early January, only one squad member has forged a winning mark over the last 11 matches which included wins over Drexel and Conn. College. THat team member is Robert Broadfoot '10 (photo), who posted a 6-5 mark in January and stands 8-7 overall this season, playing nine matches at #1 and six at #2.

Broadfoot came away as Wesleyan's only winner during the Little Three matches at Williams Sat, Jan. 30. He downed his Lord Jeff foe at #2, 3-0, and pressed his Williams adversary to five games before falling, 3-2. Five other Cardinals took at least one game vs. Amherst to make it a very competitive match despite the 8-1 final score. No Cardinal other than Broadfoot took a game vs. Williams in the 9-0 setback.

Wesleyan, seeded 11th, began play in the annual NESCAC Championship with a first-round match at Trinity Fri., Feb. 5. The Cardinals drew a quick rematch with Amherst, seeded sixth, and the Lord Jeffs prevailed again, this time 9-0. Matt Candal '11, playing #2 while Broadfoot moved up to #1, was the lone Cardinal to take a game this time, falling 3-1. All others succumbed by a sweep.

Wesleyan played its last two matches of the tournament at home Sat., Feb. 6, facing Conn. College in its first match and finishing up against Colby with a chance to rank as high as ninth in the final standings. Wesleyan defeated Conn for the second time this season with a 6-3 conquering but for the second time in three weeks dropped a close match to Colby by a 6-3 count. Thus, Wesleyan finished in 10th place. Three Cardinals proved victorious vs. both the Camels and Mules-#2 Candal, #6 Lucas Wherry '13 and #9 Shivan Bhavnani '13.

The next action for the squad comes up Sat., Feb. 13 during the Vassar Team Challenge. There the Cardinals will take on the host, Conn. College and Columbia.
