Balanced Combination of Veterans and Newcomers Should Give Cardinals Improved Mark in 2009-10
Seven players return from the 2008-09 Cardinal squad, led by team co-captains Lonnie Gibbs '10 (top photo) and Nate Fowles '10 (bottom photo). Also back after a year's absence is Matt Candal '11, who battled returning top player Robert Broadfoot '10 for the No. 1 spot in 2007-08.
Joining the vets are six newcomers, four of whom should factor into the team's starting lineup from the outset. With this internal competition putting the pressure on the returnees, improved performance is a strong possibility. The team will have a good opportunity to measure the improvement during the opening weekend of play Sat. & Sun., Nov. 21-22. The team will face Bates and Boston U. in matches at Harvard while taking on Northeastern and M.I.T. on their home courts. Both Bates and Northeastern measured Wesleyan by a 9-0 count last season.
Hoping to put a dent in those result as well as many others over the course of the season are Dale Kobrin '11, Carlos Richardson '12, Blake Rosenbaum '12 and Kyle Baicker-McKee '11, all back from 2008-09. Looking to earn spots in the starting ladder are newcomers Brewster Lee '13, Lucas Wherry '13 and Shivan Bhavnani '13. After a four-year tennis career, Graham Immerman '10 is putting his racquet talent to good use on the squash court. Also adding support are Keitaro Sagawa '12 and Nicolas Cavallo '13.
