Cards Make Short Work of Meet vs. Bowdoin & Colby - Dan Storms Named NESCAC POW

Diver Gianfranco Galluzzo '12 (photo insert upper right) picked up wins in both the one-meter and three-meter dive to pace the Cardinals to substantial victories over both Bowdoin and Colby during a meet in Middletown Sat., Jan. 30. Trinity also attended the event, competing against the Maine colleges. Wesleyan defeated Bowdoin, 180-117, while leaving Colby far behind, 221.5-65.5.

Galluzzo had strong performances on both boards with winning scores of 255.0 (1-meter) and 266.3 (3-meter). The Cardinals also got a pair of individual titles from Brendan Fortin'13 (photo insert upper left) as he produced a winning margin of nearly six seconds in the 200 fly but just 1.75 second in the 500 free, followed closely by teamate Jeff Arace '12. Fortin also had a solid second in the 400 IM behind Michael Bailey '11.

Additional Cardinal wins came from Dan Storms '10 (bottom photo) in the 200 free, Momo Salah '12 in the 1000 free, Kuan Huang '12 in the 200 breast and the 400 free relay combination of Arace, Ryan Beck '10, Alex Brody '12 and Storms. Storms also recorded season-best marks in the 50 and 100 free with times of :22.40 and :48.49, respectively, while his split in the 400 free relay was :47.57 seconds. For his overall performance, Storms earned NESCAC Performer of the Week.

The Cardinals closed out the dual-meet season Sat., Feb. 6 by hosting talented Coast Guard. Only Storms in the 200 free and Galluzzo, who again took both diving events, was able to out-perform their Cadet rivals as Coast Guard prevailed, 169.5-122.5.

The annual NESCAC Championship, this year hosted by Williams, looms large for the Cardinals Feb. 26-28.
