1998-1999 Season in Review
The 1998-99 Wesleyan men's
swimming and diving team finished the year with a 5-6 record in
dual meets. At the season-ending competition, the New England
Division III Championships at Williams, Wesleyan placed a
favorable ninth of 26 teams, a performance which pleased head
coach Brenda Straker. Having lost a number of competitors to a
semester abroad in January, including last season's top swimmer
(NCAA Division III qualifier Aaron Rosenberg '01), the top-10
placing by the Cardinals was a tribute to the team's hard work
and dedication. The team's strength came from breaststroker Dan
Fisher '01, who had the team's top individual effort at New
Englands (4th in the 100 breast) and placed in the top 10 in
three events ; and individual medley participant Zeke Rauscher
'01, who placed among the top 10 in both the 100 and 200 IM,
including a team-record :55.39 clocking in the 100. Diver Abbott
Willard '02 also had two top-10 outings as he was sixth in the
one-meter board with a team record 419.3 score and ninth in the
one-meter event. During the year Willard set a dual-meet team
record in the one-meter board as well.
