HIGHLIGHTS - Ben Byers '07 made it four consecutive years as an
all-NESCAC
performer in both the 1000 freestyle and the 1650 freestyle. He placed
second in both races with a solid national "B" cut time of 16:01.15 in
the 1650.
He also placed fifth in the 500 free with another national "B" cut
effort
(4:38.96). The quartet of Dan Storms '10, Jeff Stein '08, Chris
Becker '09 and Mike Pepi '08 broke two team records, eclipsing the 200
free
relay mark with a 1:25.14, bettering the three-year old record of
1:25.38, and
coming through with a 3:09.77 in the 400 free relay, nipping the record
of
3:09.88 set in 1994. Diver Dave Wilkinson '09 had a pair of
championship-round
results, placing fifth in the one-meter board and seventh in the
three-meter
dive while J.P. Valente '10 came in eighth in the one-meter..

HIGHLIGHTS - Ben Byers became an All-American for the third time in his
career
by placing 14th in the 1650 free with a time of 15:54.08 and 15th in the
500
free with a finals time of 4:35.30. Both give him honorable-mention
All-America
status. Byers was 11th in the 1650 free in 2004 and fifth in 2005 while
he
had never placed higher than 19th in three previous efforts in the 500
free at
Nationals. Byers also was one of four Wesleyan athletes recently named
All-America by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. Byers was
honorable-mention while John Haley, also a swimming team member, was a
second-team pick. The other two were Matt Brownstein (2nd team) and
Andrew
Jaycox (also a baseball team member, honorable-mention).
