HIGHLIGHTS - Martin Kafina '13 broke Wesleyan records in both the 50 and 100 butterfly while competing at home in the annual NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Fri.-Sun., Feb, 22-24. His record-breaking times of :23.10 in the 50 and :50.83 in the 100 both came in the preliminaries as he went on to place sixth in the 50 and eighth in the 100, Wesleyan's top finishes over the weekend. He eclipsed two long-standing marks as the previous 50 fly record of :23.31 was set in 1995 while the 100 fly standard of :51.09 was set in 2001. Erik Yan '15 then broke Kafina's 50 fly record during the consolation final as he clocked a :23.06 to tie for ninth overall though his time was good enough to place him fifth if he had made the championship final. Kafina and Yan were joined by Jacques Bazile '16 and Wes Fantini '13 to establish a Wesleyan record in the 200 medley relay as the quartet covered the event in 1:35.58, breaking the mark of 1:36.13 set in 2005. Wesleyan had one other top-eight finisher in the meet dominated by Williams, which took first place, and Amherst, the runner-up. Bazile took eighth place in the 50 breaststroke. Wesleyan outpointed both eighth-place Hamilton and ninth-place Colby over the 22 swimming events, but both the Continentals and Mules had a pair of divers, providing them with an additional 74 and 35 points, respectively. Wesleyan had no divers this season. Wesleyan trailed Colby by 9.5 points in the final standings and Hamilton by 43.5 points.
