Cards Knock Off Three Non-Conference Opponents with Little Trouble to Up Mark to 5-1

Handing Babson its first loss of the season, Wesleyan raised its own mark to 3-1 on the year with a 7-2 road victory Tues, Sept. 23. Three Cardinals produced wins in both singles and doubles as Graham Immerman '09 (left in photo) won at #2 singles and doubles while Paul Gerdes '09 (right in photo) triumphed at #3 singles and doubles. Also winning in both venues was Michael Piderit '12 (#5 singles/#2 doubles) as he stands 7-1 (4-0 singles, 3-1 doubles) overall through four matches this season. Wesleyan moved out of dual-match mode when three Cardinals headed to Williams College for the regional ITA tournament Fri.-Sun., Sept. 26-28. Both Matt O'Connell '09 and Immerman fell in their singles affairs with close outcomes vs. opponents from Williams and Conn. College, respectively. O'Connell and Jaafar Rizvi '09 teamed up in doubles but also came up short. Returning to dual-match action Sun., Oct. 5 with an excursion to Colby-Sawyer, the Cards had little trouble securing a 9-0 victory as O'Connell, Immerman, Gerdes, Rizvi and Piderit all won in single and doubles without dropping a set. The team accomplished the same feat at Bridgewater St. Wed., Oct. 8, using virtually the same lineup to improve its seasonal record to 5-1. The squad closes out its fall campaign Mon., Oct. 13, hosting Little Three rival Amherst.
