Cards Wrap up 5-0 Fall Dual-Match Slate with an 8-1 Home Victory over Nichols
Completing the fall dual match season at home Sun., Oct. 11 vs. Nichols, Wesleyan wrapped up a 5-0 slate by downing the Bison, 8-1. Michael Piderit '12 led the way with wins at #1 singles and doubles, paired with Ravy Uong '13 (photo insert middle right). Capturing a #2 doubles triumph as well as wins at #3 and #4 singles, respectively, were Alex Hirsch '13 (photo insert upper left) and Donald Kleckner '13 (photo insert upper right). Robert Troyer '12 and Brian McDermott '12 combined for the #3 doubles point while Garrett Blank '11 was a winner at #5 singles and Michael Glen '13 (photo insert lower right) collected the win at #6 singles.
Though not in action vs. Nichols, usual #1 singles and doubles player Jeff Legunn '13 (photo insert middle left) and normal singles and double participant John Parsons '13 (photo insert lower left) were part of the group of six freshmen on the squad who combined for a 20-4 mark in singles for the Cardinals this fall. Legunn was 4-0 at #1 while Parsons was 2-1, mainly at #2. Uong was 4-1, mostly at #3 with Kleckner going 3-1 at #4 and Glen posting a 4-1 record at #6. Hirsch was good for a 3-0 record, mainly at #5. Only six of the 30 singles matches played by the Cardinals thus far were not covered by freshmen.
In doubles, at least one freshman was on the court for 11 of the 15 doubles matches with a combined 8-3 record from the action. Tandems without frosh went 1-3.
The team's next action will come in Orlando, Florida when the Cardinals makes their annual pilgrimage to warmer-weather climate during the March, 2010 break.
