Young Men's Tennis Wraps up 9-6 Campaign with Fourth NESCAC Win, Downing Bates, 6-3

The Cardinals put themselves in contention for the sixth and final NESCAC tournament spot by closing out the regular season Sun., April 27 with a 6-3 conference victory over Bates, giving the squad a 9-6 overall record and a 4-5 NESCAC slate. With four teams posting four wins in the league behind front-runners Middlebury, Amherst and Williams, which accounted for three of the Cardinals' five setback, Wesleyan was the odd man out due to losses to Trinity and Tufts, which got into the playoffs, along with Bowdoin, the only NESCAC team Wesleyan did not play during 2013-14. Only six of the 11 league teams qualify for the post-season. Wesleyan got overwhelming singles wins vs. Bates from team co-captains Stephen Monk '15 at #3, 6-0, 6-1, and Sam Rudovsky '16 at #4, 6-1, 6-1. Michael Liu '17 (right side photo) upped his single mark to a team-best 11-4 this season with a straight-set win at #2.
