 Ken Alrutz - Head Men's Tennis Coach

        Ken Alrutz is in his third year at Wesleyan in 2006-07.  He came to Wesleyan after three years as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Miami University (Ohio)-Hamilton.
        Concluding his third year at Miami-Hamilton in 2004 while also acting as a tennis professional at the Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, Ohio since 1999, Ken was the head men's tennis coach at Miami University (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio from 1996 to 1999.  He also is a nine-year veteran head tennis coach at Virginia Military Institute, handling that duty from 1987 through 1996.  In addition to his coaching assignments, Ken taught English at both VMI and Miami.  He received VMI's Distinguished Coaching Award in 1990 and its Distinguished Teaching Award in 1992.  Miami's Associated Student Government presented him with an Honored Professor Award each year from 2000 through 2004.  He also acted as academic advisor to VMI's scholarship athletes during the summer of his final four years there.
        During his 12-year Division I coaching tenure, Ken had a cumulative record of 167-92 with 12 straight winning campaigns.  He led Miami to the Mid-American conference title in 1997, was named Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 1999 and was the Southern Conference coach of the year in 1992.  Ken has coached Davis Cup players from Tunisia and the Bahamas as well as world-ranked junior players from various countries.  A certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), Ken was the USPTA Mid-Atlantic collegiate coach of the year in 1995 and the USPTA Midwest collegiate coach of the year in 1999.
        At Miami-Hamilton, Ken won Ohio Regional Campus Conference Championships in both men's and women's play in 2002 and 2004.
        A graduate of California State College in Pennsylvania, Ken did his graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania.
        Ken has been on the Prince advisory staff for 19 years, an experience highlighted each year by conducting adult and junior clinics with such international tennis stars as Albert Costa, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Guillermo Coria and Xavier Malisse.  The last two summers, Ken conducted the Total Tennis Camp at Wesleyan, a program geared for school-aged boys and girls.
       

 Shona Kerr - Assistant Men's Tennis Coach

       Shona Kerr was named faculty head men's and women's squash coach at Wesleyan in 2005-06 and will also act as assistant coach for both men's and women's tennis.
        Coming to Wesleyan from Wellesley College, Shona completed her fourth year as head squash coach there in 2004-05 with a cumulative record of 44-40. Her 2002-03 Wellesley squad posted 15 victories, the most at the College since 1984.
        Prior to Wellesley, Shona coach for one year at the University of Wales Institutes Cardiff (UWIC).  Prior to UWIC, she coached the Cardiff University Squash club, where she tutored players of all ages and abilities from 1996-98.  In addition, she served as an assistant coach for the Sussex Under-19 girls' squad.
        As a player, Shona was a four-year member of the Welsh Universities team from 1996-99. More recently, she was a member of the UWIC team which won the Women's Welsh Premiere League. She also represented Wales at the 2000 European Club Championships, held in Amsterdam.  In the United States, Shona was a national squash age-group champion for under-35 and at the 5.0 skill level in both 2004 and 2005 and also played for the Boston Ladies "A" Team which won the Howe Cup. 
        In addition to her playing and coaching experience, Shona holds Level III advanced coaching certification from the England Squash Association. In the summer 2003, Kerr traveled to Cairo, Egypt as a presenter at the World Squash Federation Development and Coaching Conference.  She also has been active in several camps as a coach including Squashbusters summer camp for which she served as director.  Last year, Shona began a two-year term as vice-president of the College Squash Association, of which she has been a member since 2001.
        Shona earned a bachelors degree in music from Cardiff University in 1998 and graduate certification in management from Oxford University in 2000.
