Cards Take 5th in Jerry Gravel Classic at Westfield St., 7th at Coast Guard Invite to Start Spring
Led by Chris Coleman's '10 (right side of photo) second-place performance in the 800m race, Wesleyan collected 46 team points during the 16-team Jerry Gravel Classic at Westfield St. Sat, March 27. As a result, the Cardinals nabbed fifth place. Coleman was timed in 1:56.29 while Justin Spring '10 grabbed fourth in the race with a 1:59.65 effort.
Coleman also anchored Wesleyan's third-place 4x400m relay squad which posted a solid time of 3:29.77. Skyler Cummins '13 had an individual third-place showing in the 10k (33:58.92) followed closely by Brendan Sheehan '11 in fourth place (34:05.88).
Wesleyan's remaining placewinners included Spring and Matt Katz '11 in the 1500m (4th and 6th, respectively), Kyle Shin '11 in the 400m hurdles (6th) and Mike Moody '10 (left side of photo) in the hammer throw (4th).
The Cardinals journed to Coast Guard for its invitational Sat., April 3 for their next competition. There Wesleyan placed 7th of 11 squads with 36 points. Moody's second-place in the hammer and 4th in the javelin accounted for more than a third of the squad's total points. Shin's fourth-place performance in the 400m hurdles was the next highest individual placing while the 4x100m relay grabbed third place.
The only home event of the season is up next for the Cardinals as the annual Elmer Swanson Invitational is slated for Sat., April 10 in Middletown.
