Wesleyan collected 19 team points for a 10th place posting among 11 squads at the annual NESCAC Championships, this year hosted by Tufts Sat., April 24. Noteworthy among the efforts during the meet for Wesleyan was a school record in the distance medley relay which placed fifth and the fourth-place showing of Mike Moody '10 in the javelin.
Coming through with a Wesleyan-best 10:17.01 clocking in the DMR was the quartet of Matt Katz '11 (photo lower right), Justin Spring '10 (photo upper right), Avinash Sridhar '10 (photo upper left), and Chris Coleman '10 (photo lower left). Katz had been a part of the previous school-record effort of 10:21.64 set in 2008. Coleman also gave Wesleyan points at NESCACs with his sixth-place performance in the 800m event (1:56.05).
Moody pointed in two events for the Cardinals, accounting for seven of the squad's 19 points. His 183-6 toss in the javelin gave him fourth place while his 153-4 hammer throw was good enough for seventh. Jack Pacelle '13 also picked up Wesleyan points in two events as he placed sixth in the 400m (:50.49) while anchoring the 4x100m relay to 8th place. Also on that squad were Andre Lima '13, Immanuel Lokwei '12 and James Dottin '13.
The Cardinals returned to Tufts over the weekend of Fri.-Sat., April 30-May 1 where those who qualified had a chance to participate in the New England Division III Championships. Wesleyan produced one point, coming from the eighth-place showing of Coleman in the 800m (1:54.86). As a team. Wesleyan finished 25th of 25 scoring squads.
With a few Cardinals competing in the New England Open meet at Northeastern Thurs.-Sat., May 6-8, Wesleyan got an eight-place finish from the 4x800m relay squad of Spring, Coleman, Sam Roth '13 and Sridhar (7:47.02) to pick up a team point and tie for 38th place. The Cardinals ended the regular season at the ECAC Division III meet at Springfield Thurs.-Fri., May 13-14. There Coleman was the top Cardinal finisher, placing ninth in the 800m race.
