Members of Wesleyan Women's Basketball Participate in Community Service with Local Church

On Sun., April 11, 2010 during Cross
Street/Wesleyan Community Day, Wesleyan University was given the
Community Service Award by Cross Street AME Zion Church for its many
years of service to the Cross Street Tutorial Academic Center (CSTAC).
CaVar Reid '10 was named Wesleyan Student of the Year.
Other highlights included members of Wesleyan Orchestra performing while
members of the Wesleyan women's basketball team also took part in the
festivities by mentoring and talking to the children. The hoops player
handed out goodie bags to the children. Those present from the
basketball team were (along back row from middle across to the right)
Kendra Harris '13, Erin Gold '11, Sam LaCroce '12, Melanie Ferdinand
'12, McKinley Tennant '11, Allie Southam '11 and Leigh Stewart '13. The
community children were so thrilled to have college students to look up
to.
Wesleyan, which fielded a women's basketball team devoid of seniors
during its 8-15, 2009-10 campaign, faced one of the most difficult
schedules in the country. Of the Cardinals' 15 defeats, 11 came against
a group of eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III
tournament. Seven of those eight squads advanced past the first round
of the NCAAs.
