MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY HAS MUCH TO LOOK FORWARD TO AS 2010 CAMPAIGN APPROACHES
With only the loss of 2009 captain Justin Spring ’10 to graduation from the top seven, the men’s team looks to its veteran strength to lead the Cardinals to a potential bid to the NCAA Championships. The team will be led by tri-captains Matt Katz ’11 (photo right side), Charles Lang ’11 (photo left side) and Brendan Sheehan ’11 (head shot lower middle), with Katz and Lang as returning members of last year’s varsity seven. Along with Katz and Lang are Jamie Lawrence ’12, Skyler Cummins ’13, and Bryan Marsh ’13 as top runners back for 2010. A successful spring track season gives the team high hopes and great momentum heading into the competitive fall season. Katz PRed in the 1500m this spring, running 4:00 while Lawrence ran 9:44 in the 3k steeplechase. Cummins and Marsh had strong runs in the 5k. Before an injury that sidelined him for the majority of the track season, Lang ran a personal best of 15:04 in the 5k during the indoor season. Other potential contributors for the 2010 squad include Seth Hafferkamp ’12, Julian Applebaum ’13, Austin Cotant ’13 and Sam Roth ’13. With a strong incoming freshman class, the Cardinals look to place in the top five regionally come November to qualify for the national meet, as they did in 2005 and 2006.
While the first competitive activity of the fall will involve a race against the alums Sat., Sept. 11, the opening race against outside opponents takes place Sat., Sept. 25 when the Cardinal host the Wesleyan Invitational. Participating teams are TBA.
