Taking on Amherst and Wellesley in a three-way affair at Wellesley Sat, Sept. 11, the Cardinals got their feet wet for the 2010 season but surprisingly came away empty as each opponent secured a 3-0 victory. Wesleyan will look to get on track when the team begins the home campaign against a talented Keene St. squad Wed., Sept. 15.
Setter Laura Yim '13 (#5 in photo), who started just two matches a year ago, has taken pver as the team's starting setter and did a solid job, averaging 10.2 assists per set while also contributing 3.3 digs per set. Her favorite target was outside hitter Casey Reed '12, who racked up 21 kills over the two matches to go along with 27 digs. Behind her were Lesley Faulkner '11 and Monica Leskie '14 with 13 kills apiece. Kim Farris '14 (#2 in photo) contributed eight kills, complemented by a team best .368 hitting efficiency. Libero Ruby Hernandez '11 paced the Cardinals in digs on the afternoon with 30. Alissa Santucci '12 was good for 10 kills and 20 digs over the six sets.
The Cardinals were hampered on the afternoon by 16 service errors as opposed to just four by the combined forces of Amherst and Wellesley. The Cardinals begin NESCAC round-robin play Sat., Sept. 18, facing Williams and Hamilton in matched hosted by Conn. College.
