On Mercer Lake in New Jersey, Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, Wesleyan crew alumnus Matt Carey '07 from Simsbury, Conn., won a US Rowing World Championships trial by stroking the men's lightweight quad.
This victory, combined with yesterday's win in the first round of trials, has earned Carey a spot on the 2010 US Rowing National team. He and his crew will represent the United States at the World Championships which will take place from October 31 through November 7 on Lake Karapino, New Zealand.
Since graduation, Carey has been training full-time with the GMS Rowing Center in New Milford, Conn. He is the sixth former member of the Wesleyan crew to earn a place on the US team, joining Noel Wanner '90, Jonathan Moss '91, Nick McQuaid '96, Tim Whitney '97, and Judah Rome '98, who all qualified in the past.
