Led by the fourth-place finish of Bryan Marsh '13 (left side photo) and the fifth-place effort of Matt Katz '11 (right side photo), the Cardinals posted just their fourth victory over Amherst in the last 16 Little Three meets while completely reversing last year's fortunes when Wesleyan was a distant third to its Little Three rivals.
This time, Wesleyan was edged by Williams but comfortably conquered the Lord Jeffs as the final score of the annual Little Three meet, this year hosted by Wesleyan Sat., Oct. 23, was Williams 35, Wesleyan 42, Amherst 54. The last time Wesleyan stayed within seven points of the Ephs during this event was 1988 when only six points separated the squads.
Marsh covered the 8k course in 26:09.40 while Katz was less than a second behind him. The winner of the race, Will Yocum of Amherst, was timed ni 25:51.30.
Rounding out the Cardinals scoring five was Skyler Cummins '13 in eighth, Charles Lang 11 in 10th and James Lawrence '12 in 17th.
Two weeks earlier during the New Engand Open, Wesleyan trailed Amherst in the final standings by five places, another indication of the Cardinals' improvement during the Little Three meet.
Wesleyan will hope to continue the trend into the team's next race, the annual NESCAC Championship, this season hosted by Hamilton Sat., Oct. 30.
