Todd Keats '11 (#7, main photo) scored a power-play goal with Cardinal goalie Matt Hadge '13 pulled in favor of an additional skater to tie the game, 2-2, with :09 left at Williams Fri., Jan. 14. But the chance of having a completely even record vs. the Ephs over the last six meetings slipped away when Williams scored just 1:04 into overtime to claim a 3-2 NESCAC triumph.
Wesleyan continues its road NESCAC weekend by heading to Middlebury Sat., Jan 15.
With a two-skater advantage for :22 seconds after Hadge, who ended the game with 30 saves, was lifted for a sixth skater, the Cardinals cashed in on Keats' third goal of the season. Anthony DePietto '11 (#10, photo insert upper right) and John Guay '13 got the assists. It was the second assist of the night for DePietto as he helped set up Nick Craven's '13 game-tying goal at 3:48 of the second period. For Craven, it was goal number two on the season.
Williams had taken a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, then regained the lead at 15:41 of the second. Wesleyan failed to connect on its fourth power-play chance of the evening when an Eph hit the box with 6:04 remaining. But when the fifth opportunity arose with 1:01 to go in regulation, Wesleyan found the going to its liking when Hadge took to the bench with :31 showing on the clock. Then Keats made it pay off with his equalizer 22 ticks later.
Wesleyan was 2-2-1 vs. Williams in the five most recent encouters before the game Friday. A tie would have kept it a deadlock, but the overtime win gave the Ephs the edge of late and an overall series lead of 35-4-6.
