In their annual tri-meet vs. Colby and Bowdoin, this year hosted by Colby Sat., Jan. 29, the Cardinals defeated their Maine rivals as Wesleyan bested the host, 165-118, and took down the Polar Bears, 165-128. It was the 11th time in the last 14 years that Wesleyan triumphed over Bowdoin. It was the Cardinals third victory in the last four years vs. the Mules.
Cara Colker-Eybel '13 (photo) was an individual winner in both the 200 individual medley (2:14.14) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.68) while contributing to Wesleyan's win in the 400 medley relay. In total, Wesleyan logged the best time of the day in seven events. Capturing the 1000 free was Taylor Hotvet '14 (10:54.09). Rachel Cohen '12 was victorious in the 200 butterfly (2:12.17). Rounding out Wesleyan's individual crowns was Tess Lemon '14 in the 200 breast (2:32.89). Hotvet was a member of Wesleyan's winning 400 free relay along with Alyssa Savarino '14, Ally Anderson '13 and Cara Madden '11. Madden led off the Cardinals' first-place 400 medley relay, joined by Lemon, Cohen and Colker-Eybel.
The Cardinals finish their regular-season dual-meet action Sat., Feb. 5, hosting Coast Guard in hopes of securing a winning mark in dual meets. The team owns an 8-4 overall record, wrapping up its fourth consecutive winning season and seventh in the last eight seasons.
