Alex Brody '12, Wes Fantini '13 & Martin Kafina '13 Highlight NESCAC Meet for Cardinals, Who Earn CSCAA Academic Honors in Both Fall & Spring

Three Cardinals contributed to six top-15 individual performances during the annual NESCAC Championships, hosted by Bowdoin Fri.-Sun., Feb. 25-27.  Wesleyan collected 333 team points but was relegated to 11th place among the conference members.

Alex Brody '12 (photo upper right), Martin Kafina '13 (bottom photo) and Wes Fantini '13 (photo upper left) each picked up a pair of solid efforts in their respective specialty.  Brody stood out in the 50 and 100 free as he placed 12th in the latter with a best time of :47.29 and 15th in the former (:21.71).  Coming through with two strong butterfly swims was Kafina as he covered the 200 fly in 1:58.00 (12th) and the 100 fly in :51.85 (13th).  Fantini was exceptional in the breaststroke as he grabbed a team-best 10th-place finish in the 200 breast (2:10.24) and finished 14th in the 100 breast (1:00.00).

The NESCAC meet brings the Cardinals' season to a close.  Wesleyan posted a dual-meet record of 3-6 with NESCAC wins over Bates, Trinity and Colby. The team's overall mark was 4-9 during the campaign.  The Cardinals earned CSCAA Academic Honor Team status in both the fall and spring semesters, standing out during the spring with a team GPA of 3.48, good for ninth nationally and tops in the NESCAC.  Wesleyan had a 3.21 team GPA during the fall.
