Wesleyan finally got the chance to inaugurate its northern schedule and had a very tough opponent to face at home Wed., March 30. Chrissy Bello '12 (#4, main photo by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) cracked a two-run homer in the 1st inning of game two vs. #12 ranked nationally Eastern Connecticut during the double-header, but the visitors went on to capture the nightcap, 11-3 in six innings after cruising to a 7-0 win on the opener. Wesleyan was victimized by NFCA Division III first-team All-American Molly Rathbun in the first game as she tossed her third career no-hitter, limiting the Wesleyan attack to just one ball beyond the infield. Bello picked up her third RBI of game two with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning.
The Cardinals got outstanding relief pitching from Jess Shevins '14 (#6, photo insert right side), especially in the opener as she held Eastern to just one hit with two strikeouts over the final three innings. She came in to throw the last four innings of game two and was touched for six hits and four runs while registering three Ks.
