Scoring the game's opening four goals en route to a comfortable 7-1 lead at halftime, Wesleyan had to fight tooth and nail vs. homestanding Eastern Connecticut in the Cardinals' season opener Sat., March 5 as the Warriors closed to within a goal with 5:23 remaining. But behind 16 saves from goalie Maggie Drowica '12 (#13, main photo), Wesleyan kept its composure and the lead on its way to a 10-8 victory. Wesleyan improved to 9-0 all-time vs. ECSU with the triumph.
Lydia Kring '13 (#15, photo insert lower left) got things started for the Cards just 1:09 into the game as she was one of three Wesleyan players to net a pair of goals in the contest. Joining her was Kayla Ellman '13 (#8, photo insert lower right) and Jess Chukwu '11 (#23, photo insert upper left). Chukwu picked a splendid time for her second goal of the contest, that coming with just :47 left to pad Wesleyan's narrow 9-8 margin. Chukwu and Ellman both had a goal in each half while Kring posted both her marker in the initial period.
Adding to her career assist total with three was Allie Lynch '11 (#10, photo insert upper right) as she entered the game already possessing the Cardinal all-time assist record coming into the season with 70. She set up both of Kring's tallies as well as one of Ellman's. Lynch jumped into a tie for sixth on the all-time Wesleyan scoring list with 110 points.
