On Fri., April 1, three Cardinals ventured to Princeton for the Sam Howell Invitational. Highlighting the action was Charlie Lang '11 (right side photo), whose 14th-place time of 30:57.67 in the 10k qualified him provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships. He was fourth among the 17 Division III runners to finish in a field of 37 entrants, and was named NESCAC Track Performer of the Week.
Wesleyan came through with 10 finishes that earned team points during the Coast Guard Invitational Sat., April 2. Of the 10, half were second-place postings, which gave the Cardinals 40 of their 60 points. Leading the way was Paulie Lowther '13 (left side photo), whose sprinting exploits resulted in a second-place time of :11.45 in the 100m dash and a fifth-place clocking in the 200m (:23.45). Lowther also anchored the Cardinals' 4x100m relay that grabbed second in :43.58. Two others on the relay were individual placers as Jack Pacelle '13 was second in the 400m (:50.09) and Ernest Wingate '14 was fifth in the 400m (:51.08).
Also a runner-up was Alex Iwamoto '12 in the long jump (20-10 1/2) and Austin Cotant '13 in the 1500m (4:04.55). Iwamoto also nailed down fifth place in the high jump (5-5 1/4). Rounding out the Cardinals' point-getters were Sam Roth '13 in the 800m (1:57.72 3rd) and the seventh-place 4x400m relay squad of Seth Hafferkamp '12, Matt Katz '11, Zak Malik '14 and Roth (3:36.85).
Ahead for the Cardinals is the annual Elmer Swnason Invitational at Wesleyan Sat., April 9.
