Powering their way to a second-place finish in a field of 12 teams at the Coast Guard Invitational Sat., April 2, the Cardinals had two winners as Jess Levin '11 (main photo) captured the 1500m race in a field of 32 entrants with a time of 4:53.29 while Sierra Livious '14 (photo insert lower right) tossed the shot 38-7 1/4 for a win over 18 rivals by more than three feet. The Cardinals collected 89 team points to tie host Coast Guard for runner-up status.
Though Levin and Livious contributed 10 team points with this top prizes, Lia Monti '13 (photo insert upper left) continued to show her versatility by placing in four individual events. She was third in the 200m (:28.03) and 400m (1:02.37) as Wesleyan's top finisher in both races. In addition, she was fourth in the shot put and sixth in the javelin, thus racking up 20 team points. Livious was a three-event placer as she added fifth in the 200m and seventh in the discus, bringing her point total to 16. Levin was a part of Wesleyan's sixth-place 4x400m relay to show she was no one-trick pony either.
Other top performances by the Cardinals came from Julia Frieze '12, who took fourth in the 400m and eighth in the 200m ; Nicole Lepre '13, who placed third in the 800m and contributed to the 4x400m relay ; Julia Mark '13, who grabbed third in the 1500m ; Ashley Swan '13, who got third in the hammer throw ; and Kathryn Kulowski '11, the third-place finisher in the high jump.
