Julian Sonnenfeld '11 (#12, main photo) received his third straight nod to the all-NESCAC squad and second year in row on the first team as the Cardinals' career record-holder for both runs scored (148) and doubles (59) hit .345 in 2011. Starting all 37 games for the Cardinals, Sonnenfeld led the NESCAC in total bases (80), ranked second in both doubles (15) and hits (49) and was top-five in RBI (4th with 33) and runs (5th with 37). Sonnenfeld, who was second-team all-NESCAC in 2009 and a three-time CoSIDA District I first-team academic All-American, stands second all-time at Wesleyan in hits with 180. Sonnenfeld was a third-team national academic All-American in 2010 and was on the ballot for national recognition in 2011. He also repeated as a first-team Jewish Sports Review Division II/III/NAIA All-American.
Joining Sonnenfeld on the all-NESCAC first team is Joe Giaimo '11 (#9, photo insert upper left) as a first-time conference honoree. Giaimo ranked third on the squad in batting average with a solid .357 mark as he tied for top honors on the squad in RBI with 37 and finished second in doubles with 13. Also taking the mound on five occasions, four times in relief, Giaimo picked up a team-high three saves this year while striking out 11 batters in 10.1 innings pitched. Over his three seasons, Giaimo collected 115 hits to sit 26th all-time at Wesleyan, and post a .341 batting average with 79 runs scored and 80 RBI. He expects to use his final year of eligibility in 2012 while adding to his impressive career totals.
Sonnenfeld ended his four years with a .377 batting average, 122 RBI and a .625 slugging percentage, supported by his 17 career homers.
Wesleyan closed out the 2011 season with an 18-19 overall record, 6-6 in NESCAC West play.
