Advancing to 2-0 in NESCAC play, men's soccer picked up a valuable road victory at Tufts Sat., Sept. 17 when Rory O'Neill '13 (#7, left-side photo by Peter Stein '84) posted his second goal of the season as the lone marker of the contest. Backed by the three-save shutout performance of keeper Adam Purdy '13 (#30, right-side photo), his second straight shutout and 15th of his career, Wesleyan came away a 1-0 victor. The win ended a two-game losing skid at Tufts as the Cardinals had not won in Medford since 2006. Tufts had captured three of the last four meetings vs. Wesleyan on its home turf.
O'Neill broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute after a corner kick taken by Dan Issroff '15. Ian Waldron '14 got a touch on the ball in front of the Tufts net in a crowd of players before O'Neill kicked the loose ball home from about six yards out. Though Wesleyan was outshot by a modest 11-7 margin, both teams took four corners and each keeper made three saves in the evenly contested game.
The Cardinals venture to Conn. College Wed., Sept. 21 for another NESCAC matchup before playing host to Little Three nemisis Williams Sat., Sept. 24 for their third NESCAC battle in a week.
