Cardinals Upend Amherst in Little Three Meet for Second Year in a Row Thanks to Skyler Cummins '13
Taking on Williams and Amherst in the annual Little Three meet Sat, Oct. 15, this year hosted by Williams, Wesleyan placed second as a team behind the Ephs for the second straight season. Last year, Wesleyan defeated Amherst as well, at the time ending a four-year losing streak to the Lord Jeffs.
The key to the Cardinals' second-place effort at Williams was the capable running of Skyler Cummins '13 (left-side photo), who placed second among the 73 participants with a time of 26:25.4, just five second behind the winning time of Eph Josephat Koima. Also helping make the Cardinals' success over the Lord Jeffs possible was the triumphant return of Bryan Marsh '13 (right-side photo) to racing mode as he finished eighth, beaten only by Cummins and six Ephs. While the team score in the three-way affair showed Williams with 19, Wesleyan at 57 and Amherst with 62, had the Cardinals and Lord Jeffs competed only against each other, Amherst would have prevailed based on the order of finish of each teams' top five, 27-28.
Completing the Cardinals' scoring five were Austin Cotant '13, Austin Barvin '15, and Sam Roth '13. They finished 19th, 24th and 29th overall in the field.
The Cardinals will be off until Sat, Oct. 29, when they head to Amherst for the annual NESCAC Championship.
