Placing fourth in a field of 129 runners during the annual NESCAC Championship, this season hosted by Amherst Sat., Oct. 29, Skyler Cummins '13 (#246 in photo by Julie Hafferkamp P'12) helped Wesleyan to a seventh-place team finish among the 11 NESCAC squads. Covering the five-mile course in a time of 26:19, Cummins came through with the highest finish by a Cardinal runner at the NESCAC meet since Owen Kiely '06 came in second during the 2005 meet. Cummins was 28 seconds behind the individual champion, Michael Schmidt of Middlebury.
Wesleyan's second finisher was Bryan Marsh '13 as he posted a time of 26:47 to take 21st place. Rounding out the squad's scoring five were Austin Cotant '13 (58th, 51st in team scoring), Seth Hafferkamp '12 (63rd, 54th in team scoring) and Sam Roth '13 (66th, 56 in team scoring).
The next event for the Cardinals was the ECAC Divison III meet hosted by Williams Sat., Nov. 5. As with most NESCAC teams in attendance, Wesleyan ran a "B" squad during the meet but still claimed ninth place among 44 teams. Six of the top 10 squads were NESCAC. Wesleyan's scoring five were all freshmen and sophomores, led by Austin Barvin '15 in 36th place among 300 runners. Filling out the scoring group for the Cardinals were Zak Mailk '14 (51st), Evan Beider '15 (56th), Kirby Neaton '14 (66th) and Eriq Robinson '15 (81st).
The final regular-season action takes place Sat., Nov. 12 at Bowdoin in the annual New England Division III Championship which will determine both team and individual qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Championship in Winneconne, Wisc. the following weekend.
