Bryan Marsh '13 Places 11th in New Englands, Gets NCAA Individual Bid for 2nd Straight Year
Placing 11th in a field of 322 runners during the New England Division III Championship hosted by Bowdoin Sat., Nov. 12, Bryan Marsh '13 (right-side photo) earned a trip to the NCAA Division III meet for the second year in a row after qualifying for the first time with a 14th-place finish in New England a year ago. He went on to place 106th nationally.
Covering the 8k course at Bowdoin in a time of 25:05.95, Marsh was just 26 seconds off the winning pace of Middlebury's Michael Schmidt. Wesleyan's #2 finisher was Skyler Cummins '13 (left-side photo), who came through with a solid 16th-place effort in a time of 25:10.09. Both Marsh and Cummins, by virtue of their top-35 placing, picked up all-New England Division III honors. As a team, the Cardinals finished 10th of 48 squads. Rounding out the team's scoring five were Austin Cotant '13 (48th), Sam Roth '13 (79th) and Mac Schneider '12 (82nd).
The top two teams and top seven individuals not on the qualifying teams automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship. Normally, at least two more squads from New England are selected at-large for Nationals. Marsh qualified as the final individual after three New England squads were chosen at-large behind champion Williams and runner-up Middlebury. All the team selections were from the NESCAC as Bowdon, Tufts and Bates got the at-large nods. The NCAAs will be held in Winneconne, Wis., Sat., Nov. 19.
