Women's Ice Hockey Looking to Regain the Form to Challenge for NESCAC Playoff Spot in 2011-12

Returning a capable group of 15 athletes, including both goalies, from the 2010-11 campaign, Wesleyan will see its charges bolstered by the influx of nine newcomers, giving the Cardinals reason to think a trip to the post-season for the first time since 2003-04 might be in the offing.  After going 6-9-1 in league play that year, the Cardinals have produced no more than two NESCAC victories in a season and have missed the playoffs the last seven years.

Team co-captains MJ Cardin '12 (#25, main photo) and Jill Reynolds '12 (#24, photo insert upper right) are two of the mainstays back on the ice along with fellow seniors Julia Mulhern '12, Jaime Bonner '12, Ann Wheeler '12 and Rebecca Snelling '12.  In the junior class, Becca Koppel '13 is a defensive stalwart while Kelsey Muller '13 is an improving forward.  Goalies Ashleigh Corvi '13, who has started for two seasons, and Nicole Bonneau '13, who has played in 12 games either behind Corvi or covering in Corvi's absence due to injury, give the Cardinals a solid backstopping duo.  Corvi has a career 4.65 GAA and .896 save percentage while averaging nearly 38 stops a contest.  The sophomore class features Glenn Hartman-Mattson '14, Kit Van Hise '14, Jenna Vanderlinden '14, Sydney Morgan '14 and Jennelle Herrick '14.  Of the newcomers, five are listed as defenders and four are veterans of Phillips Exeter Academy, led by the proven scoring talent of Jordan Schildhaus '15, who had 22 points in 21 games during the 2010-11 season.

Wesleyan kicks off the 2011-12 campaign with a trip to Williams for a pair of road NESCAC contests Fri. and Sat., Nov. 18 and 19 as the season gets started with a bang.
