Gabe Gonzalez-Kreisberg '09 (#15, photo) won a gold medal as part of the U.S. men's basketball team at the 12th Pan American Maccabi Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which were held Dec. 26, 2011-Jan. 2, 2012. The U.S. won gold in the Open division with an 87-70 win over Canada in the finals. The U.S. also defeated Canada, Israel, Brazil and Mexico in the opening rounds and took a 10-point victory over Israel in the semi-finals for a 6-0 record; Team USA won its six games by an average of 20.8 points.

Gonzalez-Kreisberg, an Amherst, Mass., native, appeared in 82 of 94 games for the Cardinals during his four years in Middletown, including 25 of 28 his final two seasons. As a senior, he started 16 games, including a 64-61 victory over Bates during which he equaled a career high for points with 16 to tie for the team lead on the evening.
